Research Assistant/ Associate Position at WHOI

There are two positions now listed on the WHOI website, www.whoi.edu, one for a Research Assistant (Ref 10-02-08) and one

for a Research Associate (10-02-09).

The level of appointment will be dependent on experience and qualifications, with a higher degree of independence expected for an Associate appointment.

 

The expectation is that one appointment will be made.

 

 

Description


The Geology and Geophysics Department is searching for a Research Assistant I/II or a Research Associate I/II. This is a regular full-time position for a minimum of one year and is eligible for benefits.

 

Job Summary:

To assist with research in land and marine geophysical surveys, with an emphasis on electromagnetic techniques. 

The research assistant/research associate will work closely with scientists to collect field data and to handle processing and archiving of various geophysical data sets.  Tasks will include: fieldwork on land and at sea; processing of data, including use of existing processing codes; development of software tools in Matlab; archiving of data. Must be willing to spend time at sea and in the field.

Experience with Matlab, Fortran, Unix Scripts, ArcGIS. Familiarity with magnetotelluric data and field equipment a plus.


Desired Education:

Appointment will be commensurate with experience and education. Minimum requirements are a Bachelor's degree in a physical science.

Must be able to obtain TWIC card.
