About Us

OpenEM.org is a virtual institute for academic, government and industrial scientists working with the electromagnetic methods of geophysics. It is also open to non-EM geoscientists who might be interested in learning more about the emerging EM geophysical methods, and in working toward joint interpretation of EM, seismic, potential fields, min/pet and other investigations. The virtual institute is rooted in the conviction that the Earth Sciences community is best served through open dialogue and information exchange. OpenEM.org aims to serve as facilitator in this effort, to maximize the impact of electromagnetic observations on sound inferences of the processes, physiochemical state, resources, and geologic history of Earth's interior. While OpenEM.org has been established as a central point of reference for investigators based in the USA, it is open to all investigators regardless of geographic location.

OpenEM.org is a community-driven and community-maintained web resource originating from discussions started at the NSF and industry-supported 2009 Berkeley workshop on the future of electromagnetic geophysics in the USA (NSF/EAR-0901046). Workshop participants include:

David Alumbaugh (Schlumberger), Paul Bedrosian (USGS), John Booker (Univ Washington), Alan Chave (Woods Hole), Steve Constable (SIO), Leif Cox (Montana Tech), Perry Eaton (Newmont Mining), Gary Egbert (Oregon State Univ), Mark Everett (Texas A&M Univ), Erika Gasperikova (LBNL), Eldad Haber (Emory Univ), George Jiracek (San Diego State Univ), Russell Kelz (NSF), Kerry Key (SIO), Vic Labson (USGS), Shenghui Li (BP), Darcy McPhee (USGS), Randy Mackie (Western Geco), Frank Morrison (UC Berkeley), Greg Newman (LBNL), Louise Pellerin (Green Engineering), Andre Revil (Colorado School of Mines), Jeff Roberts (LLNL), Adam Schultz (Oregon State Univ), Len Srnka (ExxonMobil), Kurt Strack (KMS Technologies), Jim Tyburczy (Arizona State Univ), Scott Urquhart (Zonge), Chester Weiss (Virginia Tech), and Michael Zhdanov (Univ Utah).
